The Very Surprising 3rd biggest cause of death in the US.

Wednesday, January 8

I had mentioned a while before Christmas to Pete that I wanted to read the The China Study by T Colin and Thomas M Campbell, as I've often seen it referenced it to by a number of healthy bloggers and Yogi's.

He bought it for me for Christmas without really knowing what it was about and I think he was a little shocked when I opened it on Christmas day and he realised that it's a book that advocates for a Vegan lifestyle! This is not the type of book that any meat loving South African boy would intentionally buy his other half!

I started reading it this week and so far it's been pretty fascinating. Evidence based research as to why  a Vegan lifestyle is best for our bodies.

The book strongly advocates against modern medicine as a 'fixer' of diseases and outlines rather that we can prevent ourselves from becoming ill in the first place through our diet.

I found this paragraph fascinating:

One of the most well regarded voices representing the medical community, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), included a recent article by Barbara Starfield, M.D., stating that physician error and adverse events from drugs or surgery kill 225 400 people per year.

That makes our health care stream the third leading cause of death in the United States, behind only cancer and heart disease.

Fascinating.

I will let you know how I get on with the rest of my reading!
